The Nest is a community-base incentive education program designed to increase the use of maternal and infant health resources and reduce family stresses so more babies get a healthy start in life. The program seeks to reduce the incidence of birth defects, low birth weight, prematurity and infant deaths by providing social support and promoting early education and consistent prenatal care. Pregnant women, as well as the baby’s father, living in Johnson County are referred to the Nest by health care workers, human service providers, friends and family. Participants earn points to "purchase" baby care supplies with Nest Coupons. Weekly classes are held on Wednesday at 1500 Sycamore Street in Iowa City.
