Note the crypts of Lieberkuhn (L), muscularis mucosae (M), submucosa (S), inner circular (I) and outer longitudinal (O) layers of the muscularis externae, and serosa (arrow). The clear space in the submuocosa is an artifact. Jejunum can be diagnosed by 1) the presence of villi and crypts of Lieberkuhn, and 2) the absence of Brunner's glands and Peyer's patches in the submucosa.
