VII-18, Slide 45, Developing Tooth, Bud Stage (H&E). Medium power view of a developing tooth bud. A tooth develops from epithelium and ectomesenchyme (connective tissue). The tooth bud consists of two parts. The enamel organ (E) develops from a downgrowth of the surface epithelium and gives rise to ameloblasts which produce enamel. The dental papilla (P) is an ectomesenchymal structure that gives rise to the dental pulp, odontoblasts, and dentin.
