Changes in naming of urine albumin (“microalbumin”) testing, Tuesday, March 25, 2025
Effective today, March 25, 2025, the following test name changes are in effect:
Epic # | Current name | New name |
---|---|---|
LAB646 |
MICROALBUMIN, URINE RANDOM |
URINE ALBUMIN/CREATININE RATIO, RANDOM (“MICROALBUMIN”) |
LAB647 |
MICROALBUMIN, TIMED COLLECTION |
URINE ALBUMIN, TIMED COLLECTION WITH ALB/CREAT RATIO (“MICROALBUMIN”) |
These name changes reflect recommendations from the National Kidney Foundation and more clearly indicate that this testing includes the urine albumin/creatinine ratio without needing to separately order urine creatinine.
Sample type (either random urine or 24 hour urine collection) and turnaround time (within 1 hour of specimen receipt) will remain unchanged.
