Minimum:

Adults (18 years and older): Full 6mL Pink top tube

Pediatrics (1 year through 17 years old): Full 3mL Lavender top tube

Pediatrics (4 months up to 1 year old): 1mL in a 3mL Lavender tube 

Neonates (0 - < 4 months old): 0.5 mL in Lavender Microtainer®

 

If these age/container guidelines are not followed, it will result in a rejected sample and a new one will have to be collected.

Rejection Criteria:

Specimen must be labeled with patient’s first and last name and medical record number.  Specimens will be rejected if information is not on the label when received.

Testing Schedule:
24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Turn Around Time:
24 hours upon receipt at reference laboratory (upon receipt in laboratory)
Reference Range:

Red cell antigens are tested with antisera to determine phenotype.

Comments:

Duffy antigen testing is useful to identify patients at risk for Duffy-Null Associated Neutrophil Count (DANC).  Patients negative for both FyA and FyB are considered at risk for DANC.
