Comments:
A Presurgical Type and Screen includes a Blood Type (ABO and Rh) and a RBC Antibody Screen. This order is for elective surgical cases where blood administration needs are anticipated and will reduce delays/cancellations on the day of surgery. This order is not valid for patients with known allo-antibodies, pregnant or have any red blood cell transfusions within the last 3 months. The specimen is valid for 30 days, unless the patient receives a red blood cell transfusion or becomes pregnant.
If the patient arrives for surgery and does not have a valid type and screen, a Type and Screen (3 Day) will be drawn. A Presurgical Type and Screen (30 Day) will not be performed on the day of surgery.
Specimen labeling procedure must be followed.
