Interpretive Data:
IgM cold-reactive autoagglutinins associated with immune hemolysis
usually react at temperatures greater than or equal to 30°C
and may have a titer of greater than or equal to 1000 when tested at
4°C. In-vitro thermal amplitude studies can be performed to
predict the likelihood of in-vivo hemolysis. The Thermal Amplitude
Study is used to determine the highest temperature that the
autoagglutinins react (specimen is tested at 37°C,
30°C, 20-24°C, and 1-6°C), the titer of the antibody at each temperature and the identity of the antibody.

Comments:
Contact Blood Bank prior to sample collection to obtain an insulated
sample transport container. Collect in TWO properly labeled 6 mL pink
stopper EDTA tubes. Place the samples in the insulated transport
container (37°C) and deliver to Blood Bank ASAP. All Blood Bank
samples must be scanned in Epic.
If the only concern is for antibodies that react at 4°C, a Cold Agglutinin Titer (LAB4344) should be ordered.
