Absolute Minimum: 0.1 mL serum
Rejection Criteria:
Plasma. Grossly hemolyzed or severely lipemic specimens.
Turn Around
Time:
1-8 days upon receipt at reference laboratory
Reference Range:
0.0-15.0 Kronus Units/mL
Interpretive Data:
A value greater than 15.0 Kronus Units/mL is considered positive for
the Zinc Transporter 8 Antibody (ZnT8). Kronus units are arbitrary.
Kronus Units = U/mL. This assay is intended for the semi-quantitative
determination of antibodies to ZnT8 in human serum. Results should be
interpreted within the context of clinical symptoms.
Comments:
Test not recommended in routine evaluation or management of diabetes
mellitus (DM).
Test
Limitations:
•Negative test results do not rule out autoimmune diabetes
-Autoantibody response varies in individuals
•Presence of autoantibodies is predictive of DM1, but not all individuals
with antibodies will develop DM1
•Not useful in DM monitoring
•Insulin antibody RIA test does not differentiate between endogenous or
exogenous form of insulin
