Allow blood to clot at room temp or 37°C for 20 to 60 minutes.
Centrifuge to thoroughly remove cells and immediately transfer cell-
free serum to a fresh tube and freeze the cell-free serum on dry ice
or
at -70°C.

Interpretive Data:
The value is the ratio of C3 fragments to intact C3. If a C3 nephritic factor is present, it will stabilize the C3 converting enzyme, resulting in more C3 being cleaved and the measured ratio will be higher.
