Patient preparation: To avoid false negative results, no antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, or a bismuth preparation should be administered to patient for 14 days prior to specimen collection.
Specimen is stable for ONLY 2 hours at room temperature, 72 hours refrigerated and 1 month frozen.
Preferred Minimum: 5 g stool in sterile screw top urine cup
Absolute Minimum: 1 g stool in sterile screw top urine cup
Gastric specimens, swabs or tissue. Specimens in media or preservatives.
Submit specimen to laboratory as soon as possible after collection.1-2 days upon receipt of specimen at ARUP reference laboratory
