1 mL fluid aspirated from joints, cysts, masses, or breast lesions.

Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection.

Between 0800-1700, cap and label with patient's name, hospital number, and specimen source, the syringe into which it was aspirated and deliver promptly to the laboratory fresh. Do NOT make smears. After 1700 daily, weekends and holidays transfer specimen to Vacutainer tube, label with patient name and deliver to Specimen Control (6240 RCP).

The pathologist will provide an interpretative report.
