Specimen Instructions:

Stability: 24 hours at 2-8°C or 4 hours @ room temperature.

Collection Medium:

Lavender top tube 4 mL (EDTA)

Minimum:

4 mL full draw in lavender top tube

Delivery Instructions:

Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection.

Testing Schedule:

24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Turn Around Time:

1 hour (upon receipt in laboratory)

Reference Range:

Men: 0-15 mm/hr; women: 0-20 mm/hr

Comments:

Must be received in the laboratory within 2 hours of drawing. Specimens received for a sedimentation rate within 48 hours of a previous measurement will be cancelled. Sedimentation rate varies slowly and daily measurements are clinically unnecessary.

This test is also performed in the Iowa River Landing (IRL) clinical laboratory (for specimens drawn at that site).
