DIRECTOR, DIVISION OF PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and the Department of Surgery are searching for a surgeon to direct the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Iowa.  The candidate should possess board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery and possess extensive clinical experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery.  The ideal candidate will have a track record of scholarly achievement and will have responsibility for enhancing and developing the research capabilities of the Plastic Surgery Division.  The successful candidate will demonstrate effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, and be committed to ongoing performance improvement and to providing care as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.  The candidate should also show a demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has a NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center, a Level I Trauma Service and a Burn Center, which have been approved by the NCI, the ACS and ABA Burn Center Verification/ Consultation Program for Hospitals, respectively. Faculty, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
The Department of Surgery Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Iowa invites applications for non-tenured associates, clinical-track assistant through full professors and tenure track assistant professors and above. The candidate must be a graduate of an approved medical college with a specialty in General Surgery or an Accredited General Surgery Program. Candidates should be board certified/eligible in Surgery with subspecialty training and certification in plastic surgery. Reasonable experience in the performance of Plastic Surgery is required. Candidate must have training in all phases of General Surgery. Established experience in research at a level which enables procurement of outside funding is desirable. The candidate should also show a demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.

TRANSPLANT SURGEON
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and the Department of Surgery are searching for a surgeon (non-tenured associates, clinical-track or tenure–track all ranks: assistant, associate and full professor) to join the Transplant Surgery service at the University of Iowa.  The candidate should possess board certification in surgery and possess subspecialty training and extensive clinical experience in solid organ transplantation, including liver transplantation, kidney, and kidney-pancreas transplantation and laparoscopic donor nephrectomy.  The ideal candidate will have a track record of scholarly achievement.  The successful candidate will demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, and be committed to ongoing performance improvement and to providing care as a member of a large, multi-disciplinary team.  They will also show a demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.

The Trauma and Critical Care division consists of faculty members with a special interest in the care of the severely injured. UI Hospitals and Clinics is an American College of Surgeons verified Level I Trauma Center. As a Level I Trauma Center with pediatric commitment, UI Hospitals and Clinics serves as a major referral center for critically injured adult and pediatric patients, admitting more than 1,400 patients for traumatic injuries each year. Resources include a trauma registry, multidisciplinary trauma teaching conferences, and collaborative research with the UI Injury Prevention Center. In the 36-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, surgeons and anesthesiologists cooperate to provide optimum care for severely injured or sick surgical patients.

COLORECTAL SURGEON
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and the Department of Surgery are searching for a surgeon (non-tenure track associates, non-tenure clinical track, or tenure track all ranks: assistant, associate and full professor) to join the Gastrointestinal, Minimally-Invasive and Bariatric Surgery service at the University of Iowa.  The candidate should possess board certification in surgery and possess subspecialty training and extensive clinical experience in colorectal surgery and have a track record of scholarly achievement.  The successful candidate will demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, and be committed to ongoing performance improvement and to providing care as a member of a large, multi-disciplinary team.  They will also show a demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has a NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Level I Trauma Center.  The University of Iowa is also encompasses the James A. Clifton Center for Digestive Diseases, a multidisciplinary association of the specialties of gastrointestinal surgery, adult and pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, radiology, and pathology.  This multidisciplinary center is composed of a diagnostic and therapeutic unit, outpatient clinic, office facility and inpatient unit.  This unit facilitates efficient consultation between Internal Medicine and General Surgery and improves the ability to perform clinical research. It includes specialists with expertise in the areas of esophagogastric, pancreaticobiliary, colorectal and bariatric surgery who work together to advance the art and science of surgery.

Pediatric Surgery Position

The Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital invites applications for non-tenure associates, non-tenure clinical-track assistant through full professors and tenure track assistant professors and above. The candidate must be a graduate of an approved medical college with a specialty in General Surgery or an Accredited General Surgery Program.  Candidates should be board certified/eligible in Surgery with subspecialty training and certification in pediatric surgery.  Reasonable experience in the performance of Pediatric Surgery is required.  Candidate must possess the necessary skills to function in a large academic medical teaching facility.  Candidate must have training in all phases of General Surgery.  Established experience in research at a level which enables procurement of outside funding is desirable.  Competitive salary, protected time, mentorship and a start-up package will be available for the appropriate recruit. 

 

The University of Iowa Children’s Hospital located in Iowa City, Iowa, opened in 1919 and is part of the University of Iowa Health Care system. In 2007 it was ranked in the top 20 among US Children’s Hospitals.  It is a 171-bed hospital with a 70-bed Level IIIc NICU is and a 16-bed PICU that is expanding to 20 beds. The Children’s Hospital serves Eastern Iowa, a population of approximately 2 million people.  All the pediatric surgery is currently performed at the Children’s Hospital.
