UI Bariatric (Weight Loss) Center
The section of bariatric surgery is where Dr. Edward Mason, generally considered the Father of Bariatric Surgery, worked on developing the gastric bypass procedure in the 1960's. Since then the section of bariatric surgery has continued to be involved in the development of the field of bariatric surgery and is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). A brief history and summary of bariatric surgery can be found on the website of the ASMBS.
