5. Who do I contact to arrange for an aspiration of a fluid collection?
Contact either Ultrasound (6-2040) or CT (4-6148) depending on which imaging modality can best locate the fluid collection. For joint aspirations or LPs, contact Fluoroscopy at 6-3356.

6. Who do I contact to arrange for drainage catheter placement into a fluid collection?
Interventional Radiology: weekdays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) -- pager 4644; evenings, holidays or weekends -- pager 5390

7. How do I schedule a peripheral interventional radiology procedure?
Some procedures require IR staff physician review prior to scheduling. For emergent cases, such as GI or trauma bleeding, contact pager 5390. For urgent or routine cases, contact the Interventional Radiology Nurse Coordinator pager 4644 weekdays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.); evenings, holidays or weekends contact pager 5390. If this is a routine, non-urgent case our preference would be to have you contact the Interventional Radiology Nurse Coordinator during the weekday hours.

8. How do I schedule a neurointerventional procedure?
All outpatient neurointerventional exams or consults must be scheduled by completing an online consultation form and radiology requisition, and contacting the nurse coordinators either at pager 1045 or by phone at 6-7969 to schedule. The following information is required:

  • Patient name
  • Hospital number
  • Diagnosis, clinical history, and indication for the exam
  • Procedure requested
  • Referring physician/service

All emergent and non-emergent inpatient referrals for consults or procedures should contact the fellow on call at 4381.

Outside physicians with a referral for Interventional Neuroradiology should contact the nurse coordinator at 319-356-7969, between 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., M-F. We will need to be provided with a diagnosis and information on what studies have been completed. Please print this form, sign and fax back to us at 319-356-4005. We will need to have a clinical note or history faxed as well and request that a CD containing all outside imaging studies be sent to us at 3984 JPP UIHC 200 Hawkins Drive Iowa City, IA 52242. If it's an emergency and it's after 4:30 p.m., or it's a weekend or holiday, please call 319-356-1616 and request pager 4381 to speak with the fellow on call.
