Programs The Master's program
in pharmacology affords students the fundamentals of pharmacological
science as well as laboratory research experience. Degree candidates
take courses while conducting research in the laboratory of one of the
program faculty. The expected time to completion of the M.S. degree

of Pharmacology participate in a number of interdisciplinary graduate
programs within the University as well as in several programs which
combine a professional degree (M.D., D.D.S., etc.) with the Ph.D. degree

The Ph.D. program
in pharmacology at the University of Iowa is nationally recognized as
excellent, ranking 11th of 127 pharmacology programs evaluated nationwide
in "program effectiveness in educating research scholars and scientists."
Many graduates of the program have gone on to become leaders in the
field of pharmacology. The emphasis of the Ph.D. program is on laboratory
research, which is combined with course work in molecular biology, cell
biology and basic pharmacological science during the first two years
of the program. Over the last five years, the time required to complete
