- Endocrine (hormone) tests include Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH).
- Therapeutic drug monitoring measures the level of some drugs as a way to determine the most effective dose or to avoid toxicity.
- Drug analysis is offered on approximately 35 different therapeutic drugs. A few of these are:
- cyclosporine (an anti-rejection drug for transplant patients)
- theophylline (bronchodialators)
- dilantin (an anti-seizure medication)
- digoxin (an anti-arrhythmic)
- tobramycin (an antibiotic)
- amitriptyline (antidepressant).
- Toxicology analyses performed in this section include:
- drugs of abuse screening in urine
- lead testing in blood or urine
- ethanol screening in serum or urine.
- Confirmation testing may be performed if any of these tests are positive.
- It may be performed by chromatography methods within the Chemistry Section or in some cases, sent to a reference laboratory.
- This testing may take from 2-72 hours to perform and may be analyzed in batches on a daily or weekly basis.
