The Anatomic Pathology Records area functions as a records resource and chart control for the Department of Pathology.
The Records area is responsible for the formal report preparation, transcribing, distribution and filing of Surgical Pathology and Autopsy reports and slides. The Records area provides report distribution and slide filing support for Cytopathology and report distribution for Bone Marrow. This service provides the clerical support for Electron Microscopy and Immunopathology; returning Outreach materials; faxing final reports on Surgical Pathology Outreach cases.
In 2005 our service performed 27,003 Surgical cases, 348 Autopsies, 18,697 Pap tests, and 5,680 non-gyn Cytology cases. The Records area is also responsible for the retrieval and correlation of slides, kodachromes, and reports on weekly intradepartmental conferences and weekly or biweekly conferences with other departments related to patient care and teaching. The Records area receives requests for slide/report retrieval for innumerable research studies, patient referrals and medical legals.
The objective of the Anatomic Pathology Records area is to offer high quality, efficient service to pathologists, physicians, clinicians, residents, fellows, externs and support staff which will result in better patient care.
