Karla Frink Becomes CQA Certified
Karla Frink, Quality and Operational Improvement Coordinator for Pathology - Point of Care Testing, passed the Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) examination sponsored by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Certification as a CQA is a formal recognition that an individual has demonstrated proficiency in auditing and comprehends the full body of knowledge associated with auditing quality systems and processes. It is an investment in Karla's career on the Quality Team.Karla now holds the credentials MT(ASCP), CQA(ASQ) and she joins her colleagues Chris, Denise, Dan, Tim and Debby who also hold CQA certification.
Congratulations to Karla and the entire Quality Team for their dedication in challenging themselves to become CQA certified.
Histotechnologist of the Year Award
On September 18, 2011, Christine Hochstedler, HT(ASCP), received the 2011 Histotechnologist of the Year by the National Society for Histotechnology (NSH). This prestigious national award is given to one NSH member who "..best exemplifies the qualities of dedication and service to the profession of Histotechnology." Christine has worked in the Department of Pathology since 1972 and currently serves as Supervisor of the Histology Research Laboratory, a Core research lab in the Department of Pathology. Member of the Year Award

The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Member of the Year award is given each year to recognize a member of ASCLS who has contributed significantly to the field of clinical laboratory science and to the Society and who has, by outstanding example, inspired others.
This year, Jan Frerichs, MT (ASCP) was one of sixteen nominated for the Member of the Year Award that was presented at the 2011 Annual Meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia, July 26-30, 2011. Jan has served in a variety of leadership positions in ASCLS at the state, region and national level. She is currently the national membership chair for ASCLS and has presented educational sessions at the state, region and national levels.
Megan C. Danton Staff Teaching Award


This year's recipient of the Megan C. Danton Staff Award is Glenda Skallerud, MT(ASCP). The Danton award is presented annually by Pathology Residents to a technical staff member for exemplifying excellence and dedication in teaching laboratory medicine. Pathology Residents commend Glenda for being a consummate professional and talented morphologist whose expertise and helpful spirit make her the "go to" person when they are faced with difficult cases during their rotations through Hematopathology.
