Wide-Format Poster Production Guidelines

Please provide meeting-specific instructions and a rough layout.

If photographs, graphic files or large tables are involved, please submit material 2 weeks in advance of deadline. If only text and small tables, 1 week is sufficient.

Text must be word processed in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint software (IBM or Mac) and is accepted on disk or via MDA drop. HEALTHCARE>HC-FILE4>Pathology>MDA drop

Body text type: Times New Roman, 14 point, single space. If Greek letters are used, use the Symbol font, NOT “Insert>Symbol” from the menu bar. It is not necessary to put 2 spaces after a period.

If using End Notes in Word, go to TOOLS>END NOTE>REMOVE FIELD CODES. This generates a new copy, SAVE AS….

When large tables are being prepared, page setup should be for landscape format. If 14 point type is too large, use the largest type size possible that will still allow the table to fit across a single page (it may run down multiple pages). It is best to do large tables as separate documents. Keep the use of rules (borders) to a minimum.

Poster titles: Please DO NOT use all caps.

Graphs and charts from Excel: make all lines black (not gray) and do not use the slightest line weight. Do not import into Word or PowerPoint.

Simple drawings or schematics may be composed and submitted in PowerPoint.

If other graphics programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, FreeHand, etc.) are used, export the images as high resolution (>200ppi, 11” wide) .tiff or .eps.

Digital photos must also be submitted as high resolution files (see above).

Low resolution graphics (screen shots, web downloads, etc.) are not of sufficient quality and should be avoided.

Other poster graphics: Charts or simple line drawings may also be submitted as rough drafts. Graphic content may be provided for scanning. Photographs can be submitted as slides, negatives, or prints.

THESE ARE GENERAL GUIDELINES, PLEASE CONTACT THE MDA IF YOU HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS OR ARE PREPARING YOUR OWN POSTER FOR PRINTING BY THE MDA.
