We have been interested in the pathobiology of prostate cancer for two decades. Our initial work, starting in the early-mid 1990's, focused on understanding the mechanisms of resistance to receptor-ligand-mediated apoptosis. From that work we began investigating the role of androgen/androgen receptor in cell death. Our current research is to develop new therapeutic approaches for (advanced) hormone-refractory prostate cancer (HRPC). More specifically, we are interested in the mutual interaction of the androgen receptor (AR) and p53.
