Medical Laboratory Scientist
Microbiology Lab-University of Iowa Health Care

The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for a 50% time Medical Laboratory Scientist opening. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified individual seeking to work in a fast paced learning environment within our Microbiology Laboratories.

This position provides waived and moderately complex clinical lab testing and analysis on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease, and will use a variety of procedures that may involve numerous detailed tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment.

Regularly scheduled hours for this 50% position will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:00AM-6:30PM with occasional weekend hours.

Histology Research Assistant

The Department of Pathology is currently accepting applications for a Histology Research Assistant to conduct research using histotechnology applications, procedures and techniques that are functions in the Histology Research Laboratory, a research Core in the Department of Pathology.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would allow an individual the ability to apply and translate knowledge to biological research.
  • Experience with applications of histotechnology is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Consistent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Prove ability to work in a high project volume work environment
  • Ability to prioritize projects to consistently meet deadlines

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with handling tissues
  • Experience with Office applications including Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry optimization, validation and trouble shooting
