The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications from internal applicants for the position of Clinical Laboratory Scientist III to ensure the smooth, efficient operation of a clinical laboratory unit or shift.  This is a 1st shift supervisor position. 

This person will perform clinical laboratory analyses on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease. Many of the procedures involve numerous highly complex tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. This position will also have responsibility for leading other laboratory professionals and continuously interacting and consulting with section management and other allied health care professionals.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist III

The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for the position of Clinical Laboratory Scientist III to ensure the smooth, efficient operation of a clinical laboratory unit or shift. This is a 2nd shift supervisor position.

This person will perform clinical laboratory analyses on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease. Many of the procedures involve numerous highly complex tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. This position will also have responsibility for leading other laboratory professionals and continuously interacting and consulting with section management and other allied health care professionals.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a laboratory science, or an appropriate discipline, from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education or experience. 
  • Certification by ASCP, NCA or HEW.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) laboratory experience occurring within the last 5 years in Chemistry and/or Hematology including demonstrated work competencies in the following: performing both manual and automated patient testing in chemistry, chemistry special assays, routine hematology, bone marrow coagulation, hemostasis, hemoglobinopathies, urinalysis, and Point-of-Care testing.
  • Demonstrated evidence of workflow and instrument problem resolution.
  • Demonstrated excellence with written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide remote consultation in an on-call capacity.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communicating and working well with others.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with validation and implementation of new testing or instruments.
  • Experience with laboratory inspection and accreditation activities.
  • Experience working in an academic health center. 
  • Knowledge of and applied experience working with collective bargaining work rules.
  • Experience with personnel, team, or project management.
  • Experience developing and delivering laboratory sciences-based technical training.
