Testing
Schedule:
0700-1500, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Analytic Time:
Preliminary report available within 2 hours if specimen arrives between 
0700-1500.
Comments:
This test is performed on malaria smears.

If clinical suspicion for malaria remains after one set of negative 
smears, additional specimens should be submitted at 12 hour intervals 
for the subsequent 36 hour period.

EDTA blood needs to be delivered Stat to the Microbiology Lab.

Processing:
Label transport tube with two patient identifiers, date and time of 
collection.
Submit whole blood in original container.
Relevant clinical information must be submitted with specimen in order 
to provide correct interpretation of test results.

Blood Specimen - Store at ambient or room temperature.
Transport
Instructions:
Place requisition into outside pocket of bag.
Place specimen into zip-lock type bag, seal bag.
Ship at ambient temperature.
Instructions:
Stain is only performed by the laboratory if a malaria is requested.
