Friday).

Comments:
Detection of Giardia or Cryptosporidium by DFA may require more than 
one specimen.  Onset of diarrhea in patients hospitalized for >3 days 
is usually not attributed to a parasitic infection.

Batch analysis performed three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and
Friday).

Stools should be delivered to the microbiology laboratory within 1 
hour.  Refrigerate specimen if transport is delayed.

Label transport tube with two patient identifiers, date and time of 
collection.
Submit in leakproof container.

Refrigerate up to 72 hours.
Transport
Instructions:
Coolant packs up to 8 hours.
Place requisition into outside pocket of bag.
Place specimen into zip-lock type bag, seal bag.
Instructions:
Do not collect if contaminated with Barium or other compounds.
