Collection Medium:

Minimum:

Vaginal discharge, urethral discharge, penile discharge or 
urethral-mucosal scrapings.

Testing
Schedule:

0700-2200, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Analytic Time:

2 hours (upon receipt in laboratory)

Comments:

This test is used as a screen for Clue cells, fungi (Candida), 
protozoans (Trichomonas) in vaginal secretions.  Test is run daily.

Delivery Instructions:  Place specimens in a small amount 0.85% NaCl 
(<1ml) in a collection tube that does not contain additives or 
anticoagulants.

Processing:

Indicate specimen/fluid type on requisition.
Label transport tube with two patient identifiers, date and time of 
collection.
Maintain sterility and forward promptly to lab.
Submit in sterile transport container.
Specimen should be collected and packaged as close to shipping time as 
possible.

Maintain specimen at room temperature.

Transport
Instructions:

Place requisition into outside pocket of bag.
Place specimen into zip-lock type bag, seal bag.
Ship at ambient temperature.
Recommend express mail or equivalent if not on courier service.

Instructions:

Specimens sent to rule out Trichomonas should be delivered to lab 
within one hour of collection time.
