CSF & Serum

Collection Medium:

Minimum:

Adults: 5 ml red top and 2.5 ml CSF (both required)
Pediatrics:  2 ml red top and 2.5 ml CSF (both required)
The CSF and serum samples must be collected at the same time, from the 
same patient.

Testing
Schedule:

Weekly
Testing will be performed at 0700 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Analytic Time:

1 week

Reference Range:

Oligoclonal banding absent, CSF index 0.0 - 0.7
Denovo IgG synthetic rate -9.9 - 3.3 mg/24 hr

Methodology:

Turbidometry and High Resolution Electrophoresis

Sample
Processing:

Centrifuge at 3000 RPM for 10 minutes.
Aliquot serum into screw-capped plastic vial.
Relevant clinical information must be submitted with specimen in order 
to provide correct interpretation of test results.

Storage:

Refrigerate serum 2-8 degree C.

Transport
Instructions:

Place requisition into outside pocket of bag.
Place specimen into zip-lock type bag, seal bag.
Place specimen into styrofoam container, seal container.
Ship at ambient temperature.
