Rejection Criteria: |
Specimen must be labeled with patient's first and last name and medical record number. Specimens will be rejected if information is not on the label when received. | ||
Testing Schedule: |
0700-1400 Monday through Friday. Sample should be delivered by 10:00 a.m. for same-day testing. May include professional consultation. | ||
Reference Range: |
This is a screening test to detect IgG antibodies to platelet antigens. Negative results indicate no detection of allo- or auto-antibodies to platelets. Positive results indicate detection of anti-platelet allo- and/or auto-antibodies. Additional testing is required to identify the antibody specificity, and if requested, is performed by an outside reference laboratory. | ||

Testing is performed Monday-Friday. Deliver sample by 10:00 a.m. for same-day testing. | ||
Test Limitations: |
This test does not detect IgM antibodies or complement components. No one test is capable of detecting all antibodies to platelets. | ||
Methodology: |
Solid phase assay This testing is used by the Blood Bank to determine platelet refractoriness. | ||
Sample Processing: |
Invert tube gently several times to mix blood. Label transport tube with patient last name, first name, identification number, date and time of collection. Do Not Centrifuge. Submit whole blood in original container. | ||
Sample Storage: |
Room temperature or refrigerate if stored overnight. | ||
Transport Instructions: |
Place requisition into outside pocket of bag. Place specimen into zip-lock type bag, seal bag. Place specimen into styrofoam container, seal container. Ship at ambient temperature. | ||
Instructions: |
If specimen will arrive in the laboratory within 24 hours, refrigeration is not required. | ||
