Minimum:

6 mL whole blood in pink top tube

Rejection Criteria:

Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens

Testing Schedule:

24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Analytic Time:

1 hour (upon receipt in laboratory)

Reference Range:

cord blood: <3.0 pg/mL 2-20 years: 9-52.0 pg/mL adults: 10-65 pg/ml

Test Limitations:

Hemolysis: No significant interference up to an H index of 200 (approximate hemoglobin concentration: 200 mg/dL).

Lipemia: No significant interference up to an L index of 1500 (approximate triglycerides concentration: 3000 mg/dL). Note there is poor correlation between turbidity and triglyceride concentration.

Icterus: No significant interference up to an I index of 65 (approximate conjugated and unconjugated bilirubin concentration: 65 mg/dL).

Methodology:

Immunometric Chemiluminescence

Instructions:

Spun plasma is stable for 3 days at 2-8°C and 6 months at -20°C.

Sample Processing:

Centrifuge at 3000 RPM for 10 minutes.
Aliquot plasma into labeled container and cap.

Sample Storage:

Refrigerate.

Transport Instructions:

Place requisition into outside pocket of bag.
Place specimen into zip-lock type bag, seal bag.
Place dry ice on top of specimen in styrofoam container.
Dry Ice up to 24 hours.
