Specimen
Serum, Plasma, Spinal Fluid
Collection Medium:
Lavender top tube (EDTA)
Minimum:
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Plasma - Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s).  Plasma for a 
peak level should be drawn 30 minutes after completion of infusion of 
an intravenous dose or 60 minutes after an intramuscular or oral dose 
of the antimicrobial to be assayed.  (Absolute Plasma Minimum:  0.3 mL)

Serum - Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s).  Serum for a peak level 
should be drawn 30 minutes after completion of infusion of an 
intravenous dose or 60 minutes after an intramuscular or oral dose of 
the antimicrobial to be assayed.  (Absolute Serum Minimum:  0.3 mL)

Spinal Fluid - 1.0 mL of spinal fluid. Send specimen frozen in plastic 
vial.  (Absolute CSF Minimum:  0.3 mL)
Rejection Criteria:
Gel separator tubes.
Analytic Time:
4 working days
Reference Range:
PLASMA OR SERUM
  Peak:  100 ug/mL
  Trough:  50 ug/mL
SPINAL FLUID
  No established reference values
Comments:
Indicate specimen type on request form and label specimen 
appropriately.
