Specimen(s):
Paraffin Embedded Tumor Tissue or Peripheral Blood (Newborn or Cord, and Others)
Minimum:
4 sections cut at 2 microns and an accompanying H&E side from the tissue block with the most villi.
2 cc of infants venous blood collected in a green-top Vacutainer® with sodium heparin. Invert tube to mix well. Label the tube with patient name and medical record number. DO NOT FREEZE OR CENTRIFUGE.

Delivery Instructions:
Submit specimen to laboratory as soon as possible after collection. Provide details of clinical information and family history (if
applicable). After hours specimens should be taken to Specimen
Control. For questions after hours, call (319) 356-1616 and ask the
operator to page the cytogenetics on-call staff at pager #5525.
Testing Schedule:
Specimens accepted in the lab Monday-Friday, 0800-1700.
Turn Around
Time:
Preliminary results are given for STAT blood cases within 48 hours. Suitable for interphase and metaphase analysis. Allow 2-5 days for final results. Preliminary results are not provided for paraffin embedded tumor tissue samples.

Male: X and Y probe signals Female: two X probe signals The reference range for autosomes varies for each probe, call lab for information.
