Perirectal Swab

Collection Medium:

Sterile container

Testing Schedule:

Batch analysis performed once each day, Monday through Friday. Sample 
must be received by 0930 for same day service; specimens received on 
weekends and holidays will be held until next scheduled run.

Comments:

Aerobic culturette available from Hospital Stores (922349).

Test
Limitations:

This test is performed on stool or perirectal swabs only.

Methodology:

Real Time PCR detection of the vanA and vanB resistance genes of 
vancomycin resistant enterococci.
