Rejection Criteria:
Separator tubes and specimens that are not separated from the red cells or clot. Hemolyzed specimens.
Specimen Instructions:
Do not allow plasma to remain on cells. Centrifuge and pour off plasma into reference laboratory Trace Element-Free Transport Tube as soon as possible.
Analytic Time:
3 days upon receipt at reference laboratory

60-120 mcg/dL

Test Limitations:
Circulating zinc concentrations are dependent on albumin status and are depressed with malnutrition. Zinc may also be lowered with infection, inflammation, stress, oral contraceptives, and pregnancy. Zinc may be elevated with zinc supplementation or fasting. Elevated zinc concentrations may interfere with copper absorption. Elevated results from noncertified trace element-free tubes may be due to contamination.
