Whole blood. Gel separator tubes, light blue (citrate), or yellow (SPS or ACD solution).

Reference Range:
Therapeutic Range Amiodarone: 1.0-3.0 mcg/mL Desethylamiodarone: Not established Potential toxic level: > 3.0 mcg/mL
Interpretive Data:
The therapeutic range of amiodarone is not presently well established. Toxic effects may begin above 3.0 mcg/mL. The concentration of desethylamiodarone, a major metabolite, is also reported, but no therapeutic range is available. At steady-state, the metabolite concentration is similar to the amiodarone concentration. This metabolite may be pharmacologically active, but the extent of activity is not known with certainty.
