Urine immunofixation electrophoresis methodology switched from traditional gel electrophoresis to capillary electrophoresis on November 1, 2012. Technically, the method used in capillary electrophoresis to identify monoclonal proteins is known as immunotyping. Immunotyping can resolve both heavy and light immunoglobulin chains.

UIFE random will get cancelled if urine protein is less than 20 mg/dL. (See example UPE.)
