Critical Care Laboratory Information

The Critical Care Laboratory located in 5802 JPP is designed to provide laboratory support for patients in selected critical care areas. The limited number of tests available are performed rapidly (within 10 minutes of receipt of specimen) for these critically ill patients. Tests performed include: blood gases (PH, PCO2, PO2, calculated bicarbonate, base excess, total CO2), oxygen saturation, carboxyhemoglobin, methemoglobin, hemoglobin, hematocrit, sodium, potassium, osmolality, glucose, ionized calcium, lactate, and ACT.

All blood gases and ionized calciums are performed in the Critical Care Laboratory. Please read the instructions for the sample required for ionized calcium before drawing. However, special requests for service may be directed to Ronald Feld, Ph.D., Director of the Critical Care Laboratory, at 356-1759.
