The Anatomy section begins on Monday July 2nd at 1PM in the Otolaryngology Alumni Conference room, 21271 PFP, 2nd floor Pomerantz Pavilion. See the Anatomy link left for a schedule. Scrubs will be provided for the lab but it is recommended that you bring a change of shoes. You may also want to bring a sweater or sweatshirt for the lecture room and a long sleeve t-shirt for the lab if you are inclined to get chilled.
The Basic Science Course in Otolaryngology, originated from a series of Saturday morning lectures held in the department of Otolaryngology during the 1950’s. Over the years these later evolved into a formal course, part anatomy and part lecture series.
Two weeks of dedicated Head and Neck Cadaver dissection presents a rare opportunity to residents to refresh the finer points of the anatomy before plunging into their programs. The scope of this course makes it appealing not only to Otolaryngology interns but also to Oral Surgery, Endodontic, Periodontic and Dermatology students too.
Following the Anatomy component, Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery residents enjoy over a 100 hours of tuition covering all aspects of Otolaryngology and other topics as they relate to the study of Otolaryngology. An effort is made to provide introductory practical sessions on Balance Disorders and Vestibular rehabilitation and jaw wiring. The breadth and depth of topics covered during the 6 weeks in Iowa is quite unique.
