Introduction

How do you know when the curriculum or instruction is working?  For that matter, how do you know if anything is working the way it is intended to?  As educators now find their curricula in almost continual renewal and evolution, timely and accurate feedback is essential.  It is for this reason that the use of input and perspective from those most impacted by the change be incorporated in the evolution of course instruction.  The most efficient way to deliver top quality material is to offer first-rate instruction and service.  Educators must learn to react quickly to complaints and instantly answer inquiries in order to keep "those impacted” satisfied.

The rapid pace of change demands periodic and ongoing formative evaluation. The most effective educational environments now provide ongoing student feedback to instructors. The most effective form of feedback depends on the nature of the educational experience. Formative assessment and course evaluations both play a critical role in guiding instruction.

A solution to the formative assessment and course evaluation problem is SurveyWare-AnyWare.  SurveyWare-AnyWare offers the flexibility to do paper surveys or Web-based surveys.  The software enables a medical educator (or anyone) to quickly develop a questionnaire and get it posted on the web in minutes. The database tool allows anyone to easily enter the survey questions.  Survey questions are automatically processed from the database and posted on the Web.  Survey results are quickly gathered and easily imported into any database or spreadsheet in order to analyze results.

We provide assistance in developing surveys and have many examples to work from. If you have any questions regarding SurveyWare-AnyWare or would like to post a survey, feel free to contact Scott Elliott via e-mail or by phone at (319) 335-8918.
