What to Bring:

Clothing:

In addition to casual clothes for your laboratory rotations & social activities, please bring clothing for your clinical rotation experiences (business casual).

Housing

Check the guidebook for details on what to bring to campus for your lodging arrangements.

Transportation:

If you are driving to Iowa City, you might consider bringing a bicycle. The Iowa City Bike Library is available for bike rentals for those who aren't able to bring a bike to campus.

Identification:

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you bring the following to campus:

1) your passport
or
2) your driver's licence & social security card
(in which case, both are needed).

These documents are needed to complete your payroll appointment paperwork.

Also bring your banking information: bank routing & account numbers are needed for payroll.

 

Housing Information - Quadrangle Residence Hall

You will be staying at the Quadrangle Residence Hall. Quadrangle Hall is located on the West Campus, adjacent to Hillcrest Hall, Rienow Hall, and the Field House. It is also just five blocks from the Pentacrest. Quadrangle Hall is adjacent to the UIHC and the Health Sciences Campus.

Iowa Arts Festival - (June 6-8, 2014 in Iowa City)

The Iowa Arts Festival is a weekend-long, free, community celebration featuring over 125 local and national visual artists displaying and selling their artwork, a music festival, a “Culinary Row” serving regional and ethnic food, a variety of activities and entertainment, both creative and educational, for children and families. The Iowa Arts Festival is the most anticipated visual art-centered event of the summer.

 

Thursday Evening Music in the Park - (June 6-Aug 8, 2014 in Coralville)

Musical acts in an open-air setting on Thursdays, held in the Coralville City Center Plaza district.

 

Saturday Night Free Movie Series - (June 14-Aug 23, 2014 in Iowa City)

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy FREE entertainment.  The UI Museum of Natural History is open each Saturday night until the movie starts for more FREE fun before the movie!

Movies take place outside of Macbride Hall (on the East side of the building) at sunset (which varies from 8:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. later in the season).

 

MusicIC - (June 18-21, 2014 in Iowa City)

MusicIC is a free, four-concert chamber music festival which takes place in downtown Iowa City. Enjoy concerts on Thursday and Friday nights at Trinity Episcopal Church, Saturday night at the Englert Theater and Sunday afternoon at the Iowa City Public Library.  Free Admission

Iowa Jazz Festival - (July 3-5, 2014 in Iowa City)
Named one of the Top Ten Jazz Festivals in the country, the 2014 Iowa City Jazz Festival presented by University of Iowa Community Credit Union definitely will live up to that reputation. With a variety of well-known jazz musicians and an infusion of up-and-coming talent, you're sure to enjoy the music from all four stages!

4th Fest  - (June 28, July 3-4, 2014 in Coralville)

Residents young and old eagerly anticipate 4th Fest, Coralville’s well-loved annual 4th of July community celebration in S.T. Morrison Park.  There is always something for everyone, and many of the events are free!!

 

RAGBRAI (July 21-27, 2014)

RAGBRAI®, The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa®, is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. RAGBRAI is the longest, largest and oldest touring bicycle ride in the world. RAGBRAI is a bicycle ride - not a race. (*RAGBRAI is also very well known for its crazy participants who come for the party and bicycle just to reach the next destination!) 

 

Area Parks & Attractions

Iowa City Parks and Recreation                                                                          

Come out and play! 40 parks, playgrounds and open spaces total approximately 1,200 acres. Indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, ball fields, trails, picnic shelters, skate park and outdoor theatre.

 

Coralville Parks and Recreation                                                                                              

Coralville Parks and Recreation offers diverse opportunities to meet your leisure needs. Our facilities include indoor and outdoor pools, shelters, fishing ponds, recreation center, playgrounds and tennis courts.

 

F.W. Kent Park-Johnson County Conservation             

This picturesque 1,082-acre park is located 10 miles west of Iowa City on Highway 6. A 27-acre lake, which contains catfish, large mouth bass, bluegill, walleye and crappie, provides the angler with many fine hours of fishing enjoyment. Come and explore the prairies, forests and wetlands, camp or enjoy a swim after an afternoon of fishing, hiking or participating in any of the other activities at F.W. Kent Park.

 

Coralville Lake                                                                               

This reservoir was formed in the 1950’s when the Coralville Dam was built to control the flooding of the Iowa River. Today the 23-mile-long Coralville Lake offers seven campgrounds and a number of beaches and boat ramps.

 

Lake Macbride                                                         

Iowa’s’ largest state park with 2 campgrounds, eight boat ramps and two public beaches.  You’ll find it easy to enjoy the day or even a whole week here.

 

Amana Colonies                                                                                                            

A group of settlements (7 villages) of German Pietists that lived a communal life until mid 1930’s.  The settlement maintained an almost completely self-sufficient local economy for ~80yrs.  Now it is a tourist attraction known for wonderful family-style restaurants, a working woolen mill, woodworking shops, and a brewery.
