The primary goals are: to provide reusable and disposable products that are safe for use from an operational and an epidemiological basis; to provide quality products at minimal expense through minimizing purchase price and maximizing process efficiencies; and to encourage centralization of materials management functions by providing service levels that meet the expectations of staff and patients. The Material Services Department is comprised of five major divisions -- Central Sterilizing Services, Processed Stores, Mail Services, Shipping and Receiving, and Linen Services -- that are staffed by approximately 190 full-time employees representing 19 different classifications, including central sterilizing technicians, storekeepers, mail handlers, sewing machine operators, supervisors, and clerical staff.
