Material Services Home Staff Directory Acquisitions Central Sterilizing Forms Linen Room Mail Room Processed Stores Safety Medical Devices Sewing Room Shipping and Receiving Uniform Shop	Central Sterilizing Central Sterilizing Services (CSS) staff is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and disinfection of the reusable instrumentation that is used at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The CSS staff is responsible for inventorying and replenishing most of the instruments and supplies stored in the operating rooms (OR) and the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). We also manage a case cart system that allows the nursing staff in the OR to have surgeon and patient specific needs delivered to them for each surgical procedure. Bedside equipment such as heating blankets, suction machines, foot pumps, and sequential compression devices are reprocessed by CSS. Respiratory Care and Anesthesia also rely upon CSS for the reprocessing of some of their specialty equipment items. The CSS staff is responsible for performing all work functions that are carried out in the supply core of the OR and in the ASC. We collect dirty equipment, trays and other items from the clinics and nursing units and clean, package, and terminally sterilize these items. They are then distributed back to the user areas. CSS staffs the decontamination areas in the Digestive Diseases Clinic and the Ambulatory Surgery Center. On the third shift, (10:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.) CSS provides delivery service to the entire hospital for emergency requests. Central Sterilizing Services (CSS) is located on the lower level of the John Colloton Pavilion. Dirty items may be dropped off outside the decontamination door located next to elevator 'G' in room 0327 JCP. Clean items that require sterilization or that have been sterilized may be dropped off / picked up by entering room 0800-Z JPP and ringing the buzzer at the window for service. This room is located just south of elevator 'H' between Colloton Commons and the PET Center.  We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
