Received a PhD in biochemistry from Rutgers University (1980), a fellowship at Tufts University (1979-80) and the National Institute of Dental Research, National Institutes of Health (1981-84), was a Visiting Scientist at Harvard Medical School (1985), and obtained a merit review award as a Research Chemist in the Veterans Administration, Birmingham, AL (1985-90).  Retained a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine (1989-92) and a Research Instructor in the Division of Microbiology, Department of Medicine (1989-92) at the University of Birmingham, AL, and an Associate Research Scientist position in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Iowa, IA  (1992-2005).  Area of research interest has been on the structure-functional characterization of extracellular matrix molecules, particularly proteoglycans, with emphasis in musculoskeletal (cartilage, dwarfisms, chondrosarcomas, limb/spine development) and nerve research (nerve regeneration).

Joined the Lentz lab in February, 2006 I am involved in two avenues of blood research: 1) characterizing the predication of chondroitin sulfate chain of thrombomodulin for an optimum anti-coagulation through the protein C-thrombin complex system in a human thrombomodulin knockin mouse model and 2) the neurological basis of hyperhomocysteinemia identified as a risk factor for cognitive dysfunction in hyperhomocysteinemia mouse models.

Enjoying life with wife living on small farm since 2003, growing/harvesting hay and maintaining a forest preserve, a pond and grounds for the horses.  Off of the farm have a passion for backpacking and climbing.
