The links to start viewing my presentation do not appear or do not work. What should I do?
It is likely that you do not have Silverlight installed, or that your version of Silverlight does not meet the requirements of the GeriaFlix presentations. QuickTime version 6.0 or later is required. Make sure that you are using the latest version of Silverlight by following the steps below.
- Keep the View Presentation page (for regular access) or the Digitized Presentations Menu page (for student and resident access) open in your web browser. If you are a student or resident and have inadvertently closed the Digitized Presentations menu page, simply revisit this page by opening the URL you were given, after completing the rest of the steps below.
- Go to http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/ to download the latest version of Silverlight free from Microsoft. Download and run the current Silverlight installer. Follow the instructions on the screen as directed by the installer program.
- After finishing installing or upgrading to the latest version of Silverlight, return to the the View Presentation page (for regular access) or the Digitized Presentations Menu page (for student and resident access). Refresh the page. To do this in Internet Explorer, press the Ctrl and F5 keys simultaneously. To refresh the page in Netscape, click the Reload button in your browser's toolbar.
- The links should now display and work properly. Try again to launch the presentation.
GeriaFlix have been tested on Internet Explorer 5 and above, and Netscape 6 and above. The latest versions of your web browser and the Silverlight plug-in, and a DSL line, cable modem, or other broadband connection are required to view the presentations.
Additionally, firewalls or other network network security settings may occasionally interfere with the most common method for delivering streamed audio and video (the UDP protocol).
Can I adjust the volume of the presentation?
Yes. Below the presenter's image there is a button with an icon that resembles a speaker. Clicking this button will bring up a slider that allows you to click and drag to increase or decrease the volume.
I missed something, or I need to break for a moment. How can I pause or rewind the presentation?
To pause the presentation, click on the Pause button below the presenter's image. When the presentation is paused, this button will turn into a Play button. When you are ready to resume, click the Play button. When you resume playing after pausing the presentation, the video and/or audio will have to rebuffer from the server. This creates a small lag between when you push the Play button and when the presentation actually begins to play.
The slider in the progress bar below the presenter's image moves to show your current place in the presentation, but can also be used to navigate in the presentation. To rewind the presentation to a particular point, click and drag the slider to the approximate corresponding position on the progress bar, then release it. The presentation will then rebuffer and begin to play from the point indicated by the slider's position. The time indicator below the presenter's image gives an accurate indication of the current point, in minutes and seconds, where you are in the presentation.
