Current Research Studies at the University of Iowa
There are numerous ongoing research studies regarding schizophrenia and related disorders at UIHC. Here are a few that are currently recruiting participants:
- “Senior Parent(s) providing support for adult children with Schizophrenia”
- This study is looking to interview family members in which there is a parent (age 65) living with or meaningfully supporting an adult child (age >30) with schizophrenia in order better understand those relationships

- Relapse Prevention Study
- Compares treatment with oral vs. a long-acting injectible antipsychotic medication
- Looking for individuals with schizophrenia who have had an acute episode or a relapse within the past year.

- “Predicting Risk with Antipsychotics”
- Specifically looks at cardiovascular risk factors and genetics in individuals who have been treated with any of the following drugs for 1-2 years, commonly used in schizophrenia: risperidone (Risperdal), olanzapine (Zyprexa), or quetiapine (Seroquel)
