Diabetes Service

The Diabetes Service assists children and adolescents with disabilities. The child and the family work with a team that coordinates with a pediatric endocrinologist and a diabetic nurse educator, as well as other specialties from Children's Hospital of Iowa. We start with a short inpatient stay to stabilize the child's blood sugar. We continue with exercise and good nutrition. We work with the child and family to develop a personal plan to manage the child's diabetes. We talk with local service providers and school staff to coordinate their efforts with the family. We may continue to see the child and family through our outpatient services.
