Suggested Audience: This ICN was developed under contract with the Iowa Department of Education to provide training to the staff serving preschool, elementary, and secondary public school students in the state of Iowa.

Presenter(s): Mary Ann Roberts, Ph.D., Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics; and Sara Wright, Ph.D., Post Doctoral Fellow, both of CDD.

Topics:

• Identify the common causes of moderate/severe traumatic brain injury in children and adolescents.


• Become familiar with neuropsychological testing, the purpose of giving selected tests, and the implications for the academic setting.


• Increase focus on residual neurocognitive strengths following moderate/severe traumatic brain injury.


• Identify common neurocognitive weaknesses following moderate/severe traumatic brain injury.


• Utilize knowledge of the student's strengths and weaknesses in developing a successful, proactive plan for return to the classroom.
