Your Privacy and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
On April 14, 2003, new privacy rules were in acted by the U.S. government. This new rule is called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA for short.
Here at the Center for Disabilities and Development, we have always taken patient privacy very seriously. Now there are new federal regulations to protect our patients and their families even further.
The HIPAA policy describes what we can and cannot do as health care providers related to a patient's health information. That information is protected from anyone other than the patient. This new regulation gives patients more privacy and more control over who can see their medical information.
You will be given a HIPAA Privacy notice at registration.
