During the second semester, Biosciences Program students speak to prospective mentors regarding thesis projects and whether openings in the laboratory are expected for the following summer. Two weeks before the end of the spring semester, students submit their choice of the graduate program they wish to join and indicate the faculty they wish to have as a mentor. In consultation with the graduate program, the Biosciences Program coordinates their joining that program. Matriculation is conditional upon satisfactory progress and successful completion of the second semester (see Student Progress). Upon entry into the selected department or program, the student’s advisement is transferred to the advisory committee of that department or program. The PhD granting program is now responsible for the evaluation of the student’s academic performance and for assigning a thesis mentor and laboratory. |
