How do I get a tutor?
A tutor is requested by completing an online application.
When should I fill out a tutor request?
Students should be proactive. When you first identify there may be a need, please contact your course director to assess the situation.
How long do I have to wait before I can get a tutor?
Requests are filled depending on availability of tutors and every attempt is made to assign a tutor as quickly as possible.
Can I get a tutor for all of my courses?
Yes, if an identified need is present.
How much does tutoring cost?
Tutoring is free.
Are there tutors for every course?
The PhD Peer Tutoring Program attempts to hire tutors for a wide variety of classes with the emphasis on core courses. In the event we do not have a tutor for a requested course, we will try to recruit one for you.
What should I bring to a tutoring session?
You should bring all the materials with you to a session that you bring to class. The more resources you have with you, the more you will get out of each session.
If I am late, will the tutor wait for me?
Tutors are asked to wait 15 minutes for you to arrive for your appointment. If you are running late, then you should call your tutor and let them know.
What should I do if I need to miss a tutoring session?
If you know that you are going to miss a tutoring session you should contact your tutor immediately.
What should I do if I need help between sessions with my tutor?
When your tutor is not available and you need help, seek out other available resources like the course instructor, TA, or consider the Academic Study Skills Program through University Counseling Services. You might also consider the Writing Center.
