Help Our Students Travel

The HOST program, coordinated by the Medicine Alumni Society, matches students with alumni volunteers who provide students with a free place to stay as well as offer invaluable advice about residency training, the prospective medical center and community in which they are interviewing. We'd like to thank all of our alumni that welcomed our students into their homes. If you would be interested in participating in our program, either as an alumnus or medical student, please fill out the appropriate form below.

"We are glad to help any student who needs a place to stay. This program didn't exist when I was a medical student. I carried a sleeping bag with me and actually slept in city parks and behind airline ticket counters. Things have changed for the better!"
~Dr. David Warner (84R - Anesthesiology) - Chapel Hill, NC

"I remember the expense and inconvenience of traveling, often on short notice, to interviews in far-flung places. I hope by hosting the students that I can make the process more personal and pleasant. It reminds me that behind every training program there is a community. I encourage other alumni to participate as it is both a nostalgic experience as well as being a nice way to help encourage the newest graduates."
~Dr. Patricia Walker (82BS, 90MD/PhD, 93R - Dermatology) - Irvine, CA

"I originally signed up for the HOST program in order to save on travel expenses, although this definitely turned out to be true I soon realized that the main benefit of the program was not the money that I saved, but in the great amount of insight about the area the HOST families provided. It is very difficult to get a feel for a city you have never been to by just spending one of two days driving around randomly sightseeing. My HOST families allowed me to get a feel for these cities that I would not have gotten on my own."
~Ryan Smith MD Class of 2003

"HOST is a fantastic program that not only helps conserve needed travel resources, but it also lets you meet genuinely nice families that will make your interview visits away from home be much more comfortable!"
~Joshua Lucas MD Class of 2003
