The four student learning communities--known as Communities for Excellence, Learning and Leadership for Society, or CELLS--are two-story spaces where students can study, relax, pick up their mail, meet with advisors, and work in small groups. The look is ultramodern, with lots of glass, brushed steel railings and staircases that seem to float in midair. Small study tables provide much-needed space where students can review materials or prepare for class, while conference rooms adjoining the pods can accommodate even fairly large groups. Student mailboxes are located just inside each pod's main entrance, along with bulletin boards and a kitchenette. Made up of roughly equal numbers of students from each year of the curriculum, each community fosters greater interaction among students and other students at all levels, faculty, curriculum directors and staff. For more information, see the News Feature: CELLS. |
